A study found that 13.9% of adult Saudis had some degree of visual impairment¹. Major causes include uncorrected refractive errors, cataracts, age-related macular degeneration, glaucoma, and diabetic retinopathy. The burden of vision impairment is disproportionately high in low- and middle-income countries. With an aging population, the number of people with vision impairment is expected to rise. Abdul Latif Jameel Health is collaborating with partners to increase access to affordable solutions for this critical unmet need.
